Lau Quevedo (ˈlaw kəˈβeðu; born February 10, 2005, in Llobera, Catalonia) is a Catalan artist, writer, filmmaker, and co-founder of the production company Pel·lícules Pinxu, alongside Adrià Moreno (ˈaðɾiˈa mɔˈɾe.no) and Mateu Colell (məˈtɛw kuˈleʎ). In addition to filmmaking, Quevedo also paints, writes and writes poetry. Quevedo began making films at a very young age, using his parents' camera to shoot movies with his brother Guiu Quevedo (ˈɡiw kəˈβeðu), who frequently appeared as an actor. From these early experiments came his first film, Antic Egipte (ˈAncient Egyptˈ), an ambitious period film shot with friends and his brother and edited together with his mother, Marta Ricart (ˈmaɾtə riˈkaɾt). He went on to make films including an adaptation of Josep M. Folch i Torres' Aventures Extraordinàries d'en Massagran (Massagran adventures) and Brisingr, an epic medieval fantasy film named after Christopher Paolini's novel, although completely unrelated to the world of Eragon. Both films are now lost to history. After years of experimenting with editing and making short films, Quevedo studied the first cours of Philosophy at the University of Barcelona before moving to Lleida to study at ECCIT (Escola Catalana de Cinema i Televisió). There he met Adrià Moreno (ˈaðɾiˈa mɔˈɾe.no) and Mateu Colell (məˈtɛw kuˈleʎ), with whom he founded the film production company Pel·lícules Pinxu. In 2025, he directed the short film ANATHEMA, starring his grandmother Gemma Massip (ˈʒɛmə məˈsip) and his cousin Aura Turu (ˈawɾə tuˈɾu), in which he began experimenting with the expressive power of images beyond the limitations of narrative. That same year, he co-directed the short-film, YOJIMBO II: AHORA EN TAILANDIA (YOJIMBO II: NOW IN THAILAND, with Moreno and Colell, as a tribute to Akira Kurosawa, a filmmaker deeply admired by all three. In 2026, he co-directed BAOBABS DEL DESERT, a twilight western made with the members of the production company, exploring and reclaiming the value of adventure and epic storytelling in cinema. That same year, Quevedo made his first mid-length film, CANIGÓ, an adaptation of Jacint Verdaguer's homonymous poem. Inspired by filmmakers such as Albert Serra and Ingmar Bergman, Quevedo has developed a distinctive filmmaking style of his own, supported by his close-knit group of filmmakers, among whom Marc Puchini (ˈmaɾk puˈtʃini) also stands out. He is currently working on his first feature film, described as: “A young man searching for a mountain finds himself on an island where everyone speaks Catalan and dances the tango.”
